What is Samsung Knox?

Samsung Knox is a global product that offers security solutions for business devices. Their strongest selling point is their highly advanced technology that sets their security platform apart from their competitors.

Illustrating the technical documentation

As part of an update to the Knox platform, all technical documentation needed to be updated along with new illustrations to explain the various technical benefits of the product. I created illustrations and diagrams for the Samsung Knox white paper, a highly technical document read by IT admins when considering purchasing the product, and the Samsung Knox SDK overview page, which summarizes the benefits and technical details of the SDK for developers who want to download it.

The task: Illustrate the Knox features in a way that is understandable and that highlights the details of the technology that set Samsung Knox apart from its competitors.

Setting my own constraints

Our design team had recently refreshed our visual style guide with a brand new art direction for illustrations, which would appear on all client- and server-side devices and portals. To stay consistent with this new style, my first step was to gather all existing illustrations that had already been created in this style, analyze them, and develop my own guidelines for creating new graphics in the same style. I then shared these guidelines with the rest of the team for future use.

Working with technical writers

Throughout the process, I met with the technical writers to learn what aspects they wanted portrayed through my illustrations. Since this content was going to be read by IT admins and developers with a lot of technical knowledge, I wanted to ensure that the illustrations were technically accurate so that they would be taken seriously.
